werewolf now nis slave

Since gollum now has other chores, and has been re-installed, and sebulpa is off-line, the fileserver werewolf is now a nis slave.

With this change, we have the following nis slaves: werewolf & octopus. We probably should have a couple more.

Cfengine now on octopus

I moved the cfengine master server to octopus, and tested that most clients work. There are still a few hosts which are not served by cfengine. Most of these are virtual machines, but also saruman, sauron and banshee.

New SSH keys on some machines...

Due to a vulnerability [1] in the generation of SSH keys by some versions of openssh, it was necessary to regenerate the keys on some of our workstations.

For users, the consequence of this is that you will get a warning message when you ssh or slogin into one of the affected machines. You will then need to remove the entry for that machine in the file ~/.ssh/know_hosts

Sorry for the inconvenience!

All octos and octopus now run hardy heron. This was done to fix the time delay issue on the virtual machines.

All octos mac# now corresponds to there IP#

efif.dk: smtp relay and forward

As a temporary service for 'Aarhus Business College', smtp relay + domain forward has been enabled on origo for a number of domains. MASQUERADE was been disabled temporary for this to work.

in detail below:

add hosts being forwarded to remote mail server in /etc/mail/virtusertable
@example.com %1@[82.129.20.17]

allow hosts to send mail via origo /etc/mail/mailertable
example.com smtp:[82.129.20.17]

add mail.efif.dk to /etc/mail/access
82.129.20.17 RELAY

in /etc/mail
run 'make'

/etc/init.d/sendmail reload

xmlsysd installed everywhere

The xmlsysd daemon is now running on all hosts, including the various servers, so that they can be monitored using wulfstat.

Overview of repo content

The content of our local software repository can be seen at

http://www.bioxray.au.dk/repo

This web page is only accessible from within the local network.

Minor changes to the BIOXRAY repo

I started using a different set of programs to maintain the BIOXRAY software repository, so the file xray.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d has changed slightly. The file must now look like this:

deb http://www.bioxray.dk/repo gutsy/
deb-src http://www.bioxray.dk/repo gutsy/

In addition, the repository is authorized using a different public key. All systems must know about this, so you need to do the following to save the new key in apt's keyring:

More USF programs: the xutil package

The XUTIL package from Uppsala Software Factory is now in the repo. Should be available on the various workstations when they sync.

The XUTIL package contains:
